I decided to Add a new section on my website, I like to call it “Featured Photographer”. Of which I will try to feature on weekly basis my favorite photographers, photographers that I follow and being inspired at, and that I think will help my fan base to become a better photographers. This initiative will be on Mondays. I chose Monday because its the first day of the week in most areas in the world, and as well according to my site statistics its the day where I get the highest visitors hits.
And I am happy to kick start this initiative with my friend, my colleague, a very humble man and a superb photographer Mr Ahmed Al-Shukaili. Ahmed Al-Shukaili is an Omani photographer based in Oman (Muscat) born in the town of Nizwa in 1981. Started photography mid-2006 when he owned his first (used) Nikon D70. And since then he have been fascinated by the world of light.

Which is your favourite lens? Why?
Nikon 16-35mm & the 70-200 f2.8. Simply the ultrawide angle is extremely wide and also a very sharp lens and allow me to capture my favorite subject (landscapes), and If I were to stay in an Island with only one lens, I will go for the wide angle. I never get bored of it and it’s on my camera 80% of the time
Among the gadgets that you own, is there something that you wish you hadn’t bought? Why?
Mainly I regret getting the Sigma Circular fisheye 8mm , as I haven’t used since I bought except twice. I wish I have gone for the Diagonal Fisheye instead. Also the lensbaby, although it’s a fun lens to play with, yet not practical by any means.
What kind of tools do you use for post processing? And why you prefer that tool?
I love using Photoshop, simply because it’s a very powerful tool and allows you to do wonders, and I love the camera RAW edit in the recent update 8.1 , it’s very professional tool and allows me to get the results that I want in few seconds.
How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?
Well, first I learned from e-books and practicing by my self. But I found out that tagging with other photographers (even if they’re all at the same level) it increases the pace of which you learn photography and it keeps you motivated as well. I also learnt that teaching others photography allowed me to gain further experience and pushed me to research the new skills.
Among your works, what are your top three photos? Why? (include attach the three photos and explain why you love them)
This photo is my 3rd favorite photo: I love it because simply reflects the way how I love my photos to be, vibrant in colors and motion. And it’s the only photo that I have printed to be hanged on my wall
This is my 2nd Favorite Photo : I mainly love because of its simply composition and the loved how the clouds softened the light falling on the mountains, I guess it worth it to wake up before sunrise and capture these
this is my 1st favorite shot, not because it’s the best Simply because it was the 1st time I capture a photo then look into my LCD and say “WoW” this was taken in 2009 in Salalah. And also I love it because it was my 1st photo to win an international prize (Honorable Mention in France). This photo represents a 1st step toward international level.
Whose work has influenced you most?
Well, mostly in landscape I love Marc Adamus work as it’s simply amazing and represents fine art landscape photography. As for other types of photography I love the work of Steve Mccurry when it comes to people and portraits.
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I knew how to capture slow shutter seascapes from Day 1 (because I simply love it and never get bored of it)
Please add anything more you can think off to inspire upcoming new photographers?
I have a general advise for those who are starting photography : Leave your ego aside when it comes to photography, learn to be humble , enjoy photography and the competition behind it , yet don’t let it affect your relations with others. Tag with other photographers and friends and never let criticism let you down, make it as a step to lift your photography to the upper levels. Most and foremost, for those who enjoy shooting landscapes (Remember to enjoy the place that your shooting, because that will be reflected in your photos)
Tell me about your Awards, Recognitions and any published photos?
I have them listed on my website so far (I didn’t update my FIAP name now I am EFIAP and aiming for MFIAP by 2014 inshallah)
