I love vacations, its the only chance I have time for myself and hence time for photography. This time I headed to Abudhabi to check out the famous Sheikh Zayed Mosque. And as I always say, a photographer has to be unique,  thousands of photographers have taken a shot on this famous mosque, every possible angle you would know. So what can I do to be different?. A question every photographer should ask. Otherwise you will end up with a photo, many have taken and the value of it wont be much.

So for me, it was two things, one I had to do it in my favorite time, which is BLUE HOUR and secondly, I had to use a unique lens, that normally I wont use in this situation, i.e. the 10.5mm FISHEYE lens. I used my nikon 10.5mm, 2.5 Aperture FIsheye lens, with my old yet loyal Nikon D90 camera. The last two photos was taken with my Leica X2, just to have a go with it. And below are the results, hope you like them and let me know what you think.

Aperture: 22, Shutter: 1/3 sec. ISO: 250
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: 10.5mm, 2.5 FishEye

Aperture: 2.5, Shutter: 1/125. ISO: 250

Aperture: 22, Shutter: 0.5. ISO: 250

  1. All good clicks , selection of angle is perfect! Leica seems to be better than D90, except for the fishe eye effect! Dont know if the editing has made it a bit overexposed, and reduced the real blue hour effect!

  2. With Leica it was not quit blue hour time, for this the blue is not full yet

  3. Thanks Salim for the nice photos of shk Zayed Masque, I liked most the 4th one from top, it looks more natural with the minaret standing tall and in full length.

  4. Assalam u alaikum
The masjid is work of art…..and your photography exceptional.I wish i can offer salaah in this masjid soon.
I think we muslims need to beautify our inner self too..so that non muslims attracted by us to our deen more then our belonging…

  5. Amazing colours! The contrast of blue and soft yellow is beautiful. I like the fish-eye effect a lot, gives you a different perspective onto something what was pictured so many times.

  6. Very nice combination of blue and yellow and cream.
