I dont claim myself an Expert in Human psychology. But one thing I know, that mystery intrigues everyone. And what intrigues everyone makes a very good photo composition. Of course there are several photo composition to add drama and mystery in your photos. Such as Silhouette, Motion Blur, dramatic light. But what I want to show you today, is something simple and I use a lot and it works for me everytime and it can be done without any technical know how:

  • Next time you go photo shoot, take your female companion, whether its your wife, girl friend your sister etc
  • Make sure you bring with you a black cloth that would cover your female companion fully. I use the standard Arabic garment (The Abaya). Its important to be Black as it gives sense of Silhouette effect
  • Find a good scene that you think will add some sort of mystery.
  • Set your Camera to Continuous Shooting Mode, so that you can take several shots automatically at the sometime
  • Set your Camera to continue focusing mode
  • Frame your Scene and Ask your Female Companion to pass by without looking at the camera, while you continue shooting.

Thats It, at least one shot would look dramatic, and you should end up with some sort of Mystery photo such as the ones below. If you have any questions regarding the above settings, please feel free to ask. Your comments always appreciated

  1. Awesome! Will try this Insha Allaah. So that’s how you got the one u posted a few days ago 🙂

  2. Very nice, I will also try that.

  3. nice pic

  4. Dear Salim,
What is this “Continuous Focusing” mode as u mentioned below? Where it is in Canon1100D?
Is it the half press & hold (click button)? In what all the places we should use this mode?

•Set your Camera to continue focusing mode
•Frame your Scene and Ask your Female Companion to pass by without looking at the camera, while you continue shooting.

  5. On my EOS, Canon calls it “drive mode.” On the back of my camera, where you can manipulate WB, AF, etc., look for a picture of a clock, and a multiple images stacked up. if you press that, you get the option of single shot, continuous timer, etc. Hope this helps and is similar on your 1100D.

  6. It’s really great that people are sharing this innfrmatioo.

  7. I really couldn’t ask for more from this article.

  8. It’s true that principle very often differs from its application. Especially when it comes down to who is applying the rhetorically nice principle–that would be the more powerful one, Israel–we’ve seen how it has applied its paper principles for how long now? Throughout how many miserable Palestinian generations? The test of principle as applied is that Israel is ethnically nationalistic, not at all “ethnic-blind.”

  9. It’s good to get a fresh way of looking at it.

  10. Shiver me timbers, them’s some great information.

  11. Thanks for spending time on the computer (writing) so others don’t have to.

  12. Yo también soy muy fan de los calores pero tienes razón en eso de que, con los tiempos que corren, hay que estar agradecidos por tener trabajo y poder pagar la subida del IVA… Besotes!!!

  13. When I think about the toys I played with, Lego and Lincoln Logs come to mind. I wish I had more eletronics and maybe a working chemistry set when I was in my teens.I think the important part will be a balance of free play and challenges in building things (meaning, I want to play, too!). ^_^
